R&D Data Scientist, AT-Systems Engineering and Analytics

Job summaryAdvanced Technology is tasked with the rapid development of new mechatronic and automation solutions intended for use throughout customer fulfillment to improve safety, efficiency, and cost.
The Systems Engineering and Analytics Team evaluates new products to answer design questions, quantify risks, and determine whether the solution meets throughput, quality and reliability targets.
Advanced Technology - Systems Engineering and Analytics (AT-SEA) needs a person who is highly skilled in a range of quantitative data science methodoligies (e.
g.
, Frequentist Statistics, Bayesian Statistics, Time Series Analysis, Design of Experiment Development).
They would be able to translate plain language test objectives into mathematically robust test plans and designs of experiment.
The R&D Data Scientist would seek feedback from their manager and project stakeholders on their proposed approach, solution, and methodology.
Although their solutions may be influenced by practical constraints that were not initially apparent, they would assume responsibility for the correct implementation of their plans and would validate their data, assumptions, and results.
They would subsequently ensure the AT-SEA's business intelligence engineers deliver analysis that uses appropriate assumptions, methodologies, and current data science best practices.
The work would focus on loosely-defined problems in support of team and organization goals.
They would follow best practices to direct the collection of data from multiple sources, and would adapt existing knowledge to build models, and design workable solutions to meet customer needs.
They would be comfortable with specialized statistical software (e.
g.
R, Minitab) and have experience with a scripting language to scale their methods (e.
g.
, Python).
They would effectively partner with business, science, and engineering teams.
The R&D Data Scientist would participate in team business reviews, design, scoping, and prioritization discussions.
They would seek to learn the business context, practical constraints and technologies associated with the products their team is helping develop and evaluate.
They would work effectively with customers and internal partners to understand business impacts and identify any opportunities or problems arising from the technical decisions they make.
The R&D Data Scientist would write accurate, clear, and mathematically rigorous technical documents and reports and ensure that their work meets customer needs and team goals.
They would be able to explain technical concepts and assumptions to non-technical audiences.
